Jamnagar, previously known as Nawanagar, is in Gujarat. The city was established by Jam Raval in the 16th Century and has been mainly built by Maharaja Kumar Shri Ranjitsinhji in the 1920s. Located near the coast of the Gulf of Kutch, it is hardly a wonder that this city is also known as the Jewel of Kathiawar. While most of the city was designed in a Western style, you can still find corners with local touches.

Jamnagar has been blessed with many notable temples that attract people from far and wide. Let's start with the Bhid Bhanjan Temple. This temple showcases the best of Jamnagar's craftsmanship with its intricate carvings and silver work. A temple that has found its place in the Guinness Book of World Records, the Bala Hanuman Temple can be visited any time of the day. Here, you can hear the chants of 'Sri Ram, Jai Ram, Jai Jai Ram' 24x7. The Raisi Shah Temple, a part of the Jain Temple Triad is beauty at its best. This temple has gold inlay work in the sanctum, marble floors with geometric patterns and mirrored ceilings. The Ratan Bai Masjid is certainly a hard-to-miss structure with its green and white minarets. This Mosque has sandalwood doors encrusted with pearls as well as its very own rainwater harvesting system.

A vacation is meant for relaxing and nothing says this better than a beach. The nearest beach to Jamnagar is the Balachari beach. Improve your knowledge of the local marine life at Pirotan Island. Located on an island in the middle of the lake with the same name, this museum showcases weapons, sculptures, paintings depicting battle scenes and lots more. The Kotha Bastion is a unique place. Along with coins, inscriptions and the skeleton of a whale, it also has a well whose water can be drawn out by blowing into a small hole in the ground! No trip from Mumbai to Jamnagar is ever complete without a little shopping and where else to do this than at Chandi Bazaar. Here you will see silver and gold artisans create items in a way that is almost magical.
