Saigon merged with the surrounding Gia Dinh Province to form the present Ho Chi Minh City on 2nd July 1976. The land area of Ho Chi Minh City is 2.095,6 km2 and it is located at an elevation of 19 meters above sea level. The local people of the city as called as "Saigonese" in English and "dân Sài Gòn" in Vietnamese; some speak Chinese dialects, or French along with the national language of Vietnamese. Ho Chi Minh City Airport is officially known as Tan Son Nhat International Airport and it is the major airport in the city and all flights land at this airport. It is Vietnam’s largest airport in terms of area and passenger traffic and is located at a distance of 6 km north of Ho Chi Minh city Center. Experiencing a tropical wet and dry climate, the city has 2 distinct seasons – the Rainy Season which begins in May and lasts till October and the dry season lasting from December to April.
