Discover Hamad International

From pristine beaches to graceful sand dunes, Qatar is a beautiful place to visit. There is year-round sunshine with a subtropical desert climate. Annual rainfall is low and the summers are hot and humid.

Hamad International Airport (HIA), was previously known as Doha International Airport. A world-class facility, it is set to redefine the passenger’s experience.

It consists of a three-storey terminal building, including 350,000m² of floor space, of which 25,000m² is dedicated as retail space. There are also seven remote gates and eight hardstand aircraft parking bays. The only airport in Qatar, it has three mosques, free WiFi, a large duty-free area and a few eateries. Its 15,000 ft runway is one of the longest at a civil airport.

How to Get Around

The airport is located near the city of Doha. The best way to get to the airport is by taxi although there are also two bus routes serving the airport.

Just as enticing are the full-day dhow and fishing trips offered by tour companies including trips to Safliya Island and water sports which are available at an extra cost. These trips usually include lunch. For a dose of culture, visit the Museum of Islamic Art, a stunning building designed by I.M. Pei, famed for designing the modern wing of the Louvre in Paris. It houses works from more than 200 years of Islamic civilisation. A historical landmark is Fort Zubarah, an 18th century fort in the north of the country.

Shop at Souq Waqif, that offers the bustle and vitality of an old traditional souq with perfectly replicated buildings featuring traditional architecture. Here you can buy handicraft, spices, perfumes and fabric.

Less than half an hour away from the airport are The Singing Sand Dunes. Hear a humming sound and feel vibrations through your feet with each step your take on the sand.
