Menorca, which is also spelt as Minorca is of the most exotic holiday destinations in Spain. Located the Mediterranean Sea, it is one among the Balearic Islands and is extremely popular for its collection of megalithic stone monuments. Spreading on an area of 695.7 km2 of land, the highest elevation on the island is at 358 meters above mean sea level. The island is the second largest of the Balearic Islands and the name has been derived from the Latin word, Insula Minor, which means smaller island. The island is inhabited by 94,383 residents. A peaceful holiday resort, Minorca is blessed with some of the most splendorous beaches, exciting adventure options and endless natural panorama. If you are flying to Menorca, then your flight will land at Menorca Airport, also known as Mahón Airport. This is a major airport serving Menorca, at a distance of 4.5 km form the city center and at present it operates regular as well as charter flights to domestic as well as international destinations. Menorca features Mediterranean type of climate and has very little variation in annual temperature. Having around 300 days of sunshine, the island can be visited at any time of the year. The peak tourist season begins from June till mid of September and the price of the hotel is very high. The tourist’s season is over by October as the weather starts to get cold. City Attractions

Having a large shoreline, the island is very popular for its beaches. While most of the beaches are filled with tourists for most pats of the year, there are a few hidden coves and secluded beaches where you can relax and soak in the sun. Cala Pilar, Son Xoriguer, Cala en Turqueta, Arenal d'en Castell, Arenal d'en Castell, Sant Tomás, Cala Escorxada, Binibeca Beach and Cala Rafalet are among the many popular beaches in Menorca. Go to Es Grau, Fornells or Cala Galdana to enjoy Kayaking. Hiking in Menorca is best enjoyed at Camí de Cavalls, which is an ancient path encircling the island and is 186 km long.

Biking, yachting, horse riding and sailings are some of the adventure options that tourists can enjoy in Menorca. Menorca is also very famous for its glass bottomed boat cruises around the harbor. Rutas Maritimas de la Cruz and Son Bou Scuba are the two major operators of these boat tours. Harbour of Maó, which is the second largest natural deep water port in the world, is the major landmark of Menorac. Harbour of Ciutadella, Harbour of Fornella, Naveta d'es Tudons, Torre d’en Galmés, La Mola Fortress, St. Philip's Castle, Museu de Menorca, Municipal Museum of Ciutadella des Bastió de sa Font, 7 light houses, Monte Toro, Cales Fonts and The Old Radio Station Corner are the major architecture attractions in the island. Your trip to Menorca is incomplete if you do not visit the Cova d'en Xoroi, which is a natural cave cliff and currently used as a club and is used as a bar in the evening

Eating and Shopping

The island of Menorca specializes in Mediterranean cuisine and it is the most famous food option served in almost all the restaurant. However, as Menorca is a growing tourism hub, restaurants serving international fare can also be found across the island. Caldereta de langosta, Menorcan-Style Stuffed Aubergines, Oliaigu, Sípia amb fesols, Sobrassada, Pastissets and varieties of cured sausages are among the local delicacies one should try here. Do try the local wine which is available all over the island.

Some of the shopping items indigenous to Menorca are Avarca (a type of sandal and a fashion icon), typical cured sausages and varieties of cheese. The island is believed to have originated Mayonnaise, so picking a bottle is a must. The island does not boast of magnanimous shopping malls or many high end boutiques. The humble neighbored market or various street shops and flea markets are the safest bets when planning a shopping expedition in Menorca.
