Menorca, which is also spelt as Minorca is of the most exotic holiday destinations in Spain. Located the Mediterranean Sea, it is one among the Balearic Islands and is extremely popular for its collection of megalithic stone monuments. Spreading on an area of 695.7 km2 of land, the highest elevation on the island is at 358 meters above mean sea level. The island is the second largest of the Balearic Islands and the name has been derived from the Latin word, Insula Minor, which means smaller island. The island is inhabited by 94,383 residents. The history of the island goes back to the ancient times and historians believe the island to have been ruled by Greek Minoans of ancient Crete. A peaceful holiday resort, Minorca is blessed with some of the most splendorous beaches, exciting adventure options and endless natural panorama. While Standard Catalan and standard Spanish are the two major languages, English is also spoken and understood by a fair share of population, especially those in the tourist areas.
