Beautiful Amman is the capital of Jordan and one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities of the world. It has often been named one of the best cities in the world according to economic, labor, environmental and socio-cultural factors. 

 

Climate: Amman has a semi-arid climate. It experiences hot and dry summers, and the winters are wet and range from mild to cool. Spring is brief and quite warm, where highs are around 28 °C. It usually lasts from April to May, followed by a hot summer. The summer average temperatures are between 30 °C and 40 °C. Amman has hot summers starting from mid June to early October. Winter temperatures are usually near or below 17 °C, with snow occasionally falling every other year.

 

Food: Its cuisine includesvegetables from Lebanon, crunchy falafels from Syria, juicy kebabs from Egypt and spicy meat dishes from Jordan’s neighbor, Iraq. It’s known as the food of the Levant — an ancient word for the area by the Mediterranean Sea and the Arabian Peninsula. Organic and Natural Food is also very popular here. Seasonal farmers markets, high-end supermarkets and health stores offer organic and natural foods.


Culture: Ammanis considered one of the most westernized and liberal cities in the Arab World. It is one of the most popular destinations for expats and college students to study, or work in the Middle East. The city's culinary scene has expanded from its shwarma stands and falafel joints to embrace many popular American restaurants and fast-food outlets. Amman has cultural entertainment to indulge in like the annual Amman Summer Festival and Souk Jara.

 

History and Architecture: The site at the Amman Citadel shows that it was occupied from the Middle Bronze Age to the occupation by the Mamluks. Amman was conquered by the Assyrians, followed by the Persians, and then the Greek Macedonians. In 1921, King Abdullah I chose Amman instead of Al-Salt as the seat of government for his state, the Emirate of Transjordan. Jabal Amman houses the city's souks, museums, ancient constructions, monuments, and cultural sites. The Citadel hill of Amman, known as Jabal al-Qal'a is home to the Temple of Hercules which is said to have been constructed under the Roman Emperor Marcus Aurelius.

 

Sightseeing in Amman:  Sport city, Temple of Hercules at Amman Citadel, Omayyad Palace, Ottoman Hejaz Railway station, Roman theater, Abdoun Bridge, King Abdullah I Mosque and Raghadan Flagpole are a must-see here.

 

Shopping:The Sweifieh area is considered to be the main shopping district of Amman. Do also check out thethe Mecca Mall, Abdoun Mall, Amman Mall, City Mall, Plaza Mall, Al-Baraka Mall, Istikal Mall, Taj Mall, Zara Shopping Center, Avenue Mall and Mukhtar Mall. The Wakalat Street ("Agencies Street") is Amman's first pedestrian-only street and offers many branded clothes.

 

Getting to and fro from the airport

 The city has frequent bus connections and service taxis to the airport. Service taxis, which most often operate on fixed routes, are readily available and inexpensive. The two main bus and taxi stations are Abdali and the newly built Rağadan Central Bus Station.
