Discover Lanzarote

Situated at the San Bartolomé municipality on the Lanzarote Island within the Canaries, the Lanzarote Airport, also recognised as the Arrecife Airport, serves as the main gateway for its island as well as the local tourism sector. Located a mere 5km from the Arrecife city centre, the airport handles mostly flights to and from European destinations, particularly that of its own country, Spain. It also houses a museum, showcasing the aviation heritage and history of the island. Care and comfort of passengers are heavily emphasised by airport personnel, who strive to ensure that passengers passing through the airport come away with a great experience. This is done by ensuring that flights are punctual, and there is as little hassle as possible that passengers have to undergo, regardless of check-in procedures or custom checks. A wide array of amenities is also available for the passengers’ convenience; from banking facilities, dining selections, last-minute retail shops pedalling apparels to jewellery, and even tour options offered by the many operators located within the airport. The airport also strongly values feedback in a bid to keep improving their services, and these may be provided by passengers through a mobile app designed by the European Commission.

How to get around in Lanzarote

In just an approximate 10 minutes, passengers can get to the island’s capital via the city buses. Taxi services are also available at the taxi rank within the terminal. However, one of the most popular modes of transport for those on vacation in Lanzarote Island is renting a car; and a wide variety of rental companies are present at the airport where passengers can easily choose from and explore the island at your own convenience and preferred pace.

Since the island is quite petite in size, travelling around is fairly convenient. Public transports like the Arrecife city buses run on an organised schedule so do check out its online webpage for specific routes and timings. Taxis are also plentiful around the island but a more affordable mode of transportation would still be renting your own personal car.

What to see & do

Located in the east of the Canary Islands on the Atlantic Ocean, Lanzarote is the fourth largest island of the cluster. Its name was first derived from Genoese navigator Lancelotto Malocello and later on shortened to just ‘Lanzarote’. The island faced constant volcanic eruptions during the period of 1730-1736 which left the lands barren and agriculture industry damaged, but kick-started the island’s wine industry. Today, Lanzarote is more known for its one-of-a-kind geology, eco-friendly spots, and beaches. The island’s tropical weather also makes it a great holiday destination all year round; even in summer temperatures remain fairly cool as they hover around the twenties.

Lanzarote’s beaches are not famed for nothing. Crystal blue waters line its sandy shores where most beaches are preserved in their nature states, protected from modern developments. A couple of water-activities are available at most beaches, such as the likes of surfing, windsurfing, snorkelling and kiteboarding. Visitors can even receive lessons from schools catered specifically to these sports. Some of the more famous and trendy beaches that have proved to be a hit among the tourists includes Playa Blanca and Papagayo. A large number of decent resorts have also popped up near these beaches, granting visitors an ideal holiday by the sea.
