Kuwait International Airport

Kuwait International is the main airport of Kuwait. Situated in Farwaniyah, around 16 km from the city of Kuwait, the airport also serves as a base of Kuwait Air Force and houses Kuwait Air Force Museum. A public cum military airport, it is operated by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation.


The airport is perched at a height of 206 ft above mean sea level and has two parallel runways which measures 3,400 m and 3,500 m in length with an orientation of 15R/33L and 15L33R. A major hub of Jazeera Airways and Kuwait Airways, the airport has the capacity of handling of more than 7 million passengers annually. There are also numbers of airlines that connects the airport to different parts of the world. Direct flights from India and other important destinations of Asia, Europe and Middle East are also available.

In recent years, it has undergone a huge extension and facelift, which incorporated terminal building expansion, new check-in areas, entry point and building of a multi-storey parking lot as well as an airport mall. Further expansion and development of the airport has also been announced by the Kuwaiti Ministry of Public Works recently and it will include construction of a new terminal. The estimated cost of the project is around 900 million Kuwaiti Dinars and is expected to complete by the end of 2016.


At present, the airport is served by only a single terminal and has the capacity of handling more than twenty three thousand passengers daily. The three-storey terminal building consists of a hanger and an apron. However, the airport’s cargo complex can handle 600,000t/y of freight.


The main terminal building is equipped with VIP lounge, conference facilities, private office, restaurants and cafeterias. Hotels, assistance to physically challenged passengers, commercial centre, banks, travel information desks, car parking, car rental office, free wi-fi internet, telephone offices, mobile hire outlets, lost and found counters, medical centre, prayer areas, nursery and a kid’s zone are among other facilities offered at the airport.
