Valencia Airport (VLC) – The Gateway To Valencia

Valencia Airport is also popular as the Manises Airport across Spain. It is also the 8th busiest airport in all of Spain when it comes to the number of passengers visiting the place annually but ranks 2nd in terms of region. The flights which fly out of here connect Valencia to 15 different places in Europe. 2011 saw the airport providing its services to 4.98 million passengers.

History

Before the Valencia Airport was constructed in the city of Spain, people made use of the boat planes and the sea port to reach here. It was after an extensive discussion, that the airport was finally agreed to begin to be constructed and a site was allotted for the same, within the Manises suburb.

However, it was only in the year 1933, the airfield was opened, and the scheduled passenger flights began to be to Madrid the very next year. However, it wasn’t until the 1940s that the steady flow of the passengers began and the runways were hard surfaced.

Over a period of the next couple of decades, a number of minor improvements were continuously made. Some of these improvements include addition of lights, runway extensions and many more. In the 1980s, an eco-friendly, brand new terminal was opened for the passengers.

Another terminal was built in the year 2007, and had improved parking facilities, runway extensions and also generally modernized. All of these improvements prompted Valencia to be chosen as 32nd America’s Cup’s host city.

Fleet

The Valencia Airport is very small as compared to most of the other airports that are found around the world, but at the same time it is relatively busy as well. This single facility is capable of handling flights which go out to 15 countries in Europe. Domestic flights ply from here as well.

Valencia Airport has just as single terminal facility that operates for both domestic, as well as, international flights. There are some charter flights being served here as well.

Awards

Valencia Airport is very small in size and caters to very few flights. The flights that leave from here do connect the city of Valencia to a number of domestic destinations. However, at the same time it connects to just 15 international destinations, all of which lie in Europe. There are several facilities that need to be improved, and hence, as of now the airport hasn’t received any awards and recognitions.

Routes And Destinations

Ever since the Valencia Airport was first established, it has grown, slowly but surely, for several years after that. The numbers of airlines which fly out of here have increased; however, the airlines right now connect to just 15 destinations in Europe.

Some of the airlines which fly out of here include Air Berlin, Blue Air, German wings, Royal Air Maroc, S7 Airlines, TAP Portugal, Transavia France, Wizz Air, Alitalia and several more.

The passengers need to be present at the airport a couple of hours before the domestic flights, while for the international airports, the passengers need to be present at the airport at least 3 hours before the time of departure.

Baggage And Allowance

When the passengers enter the airport, they are required to check their baggage in. Depending on the airline that the passenger chooses to fly in, every passenger is allowed to carry a certain amount of baggage to take along with them. In case the baggage that is being carried exceeds the permissible limit, then the passenger has to pay an additional amount. The tags that are fixed on the baggage allow them to be identified easily.

Seating

The seating in the aircraft depends on whether it is flying to domestic destinations or an international one. All these years, the seating arrangements have largely improved and the number of passengers per aircraft too has increased.

As you reach the airport, do not forget to check the departure time, as well as, the status of the flight.
