Imphal lies in the north eastern part of India and is the capital of Manipur, one of the Seven Sister States. Overview
Imphal was home to Manipuri Maharajas until British conquered the city in 1892. The city was under the ruled of British till 1947 and it has seen many battles of historical importance including the World War II and Indo-China War. Imphal is also often referred to as “Cultural capital of Manipur”, with various traditional festivals and cultural shows taking place in the city at regular intervals. Some of the famous festivals celebrated in the city include Cheirouba (Manipuri New Year), Holi, Ningol Chakouba (social festival of Manipur) and Rath Yatra.
