Discover Raipur

Raipur Airport is formally named Swami Vivekananda Airport. Prior to this, the airport was formerly called Mana Airport. It mainly serves the state of Chhattisgarh, a state in Central India. Carriers serving Raipur Airport include major airlines like Jet Airways and Air India Limited.

Getting Around

The airport is about 15 kilometres south of Raipur, and it is easy to reach the city centre via car rental or taxi. Roads connect the airport to downtown Raipur, which makes it convenient for travellers to drive there in a rented car. However, those unfamiliar with the road conditions in Raipur may prefer to hail a cab. Airport taxis take passengers to the city centre, as well as to their desired destinations.

Within the city centre, commute by local transport including intra-city bus services, auto-rickshaws and tuk-tuks. These forms of transport reach most places in downtown Raipur, helping tourists get to the city’s popular attractions. Otherwise, travel by taxi to arrive at your destination.

What to See & Do

Start exploring Raipur from the heart of the city. Visit the Vivekanand Sarovar, also known as the ‘Burha Talab’, perhaps the oldest water body in the city. It is a prominent landmark, frequently visited by tourists and locals alike. The well-lit park features a massive 37-foot high statue of Swami Vivekananda, found in the middle of the pond. Boating and picnicking are a few of the common activities by the lake. Enjoy a relaxing walk and the pleasant scenery along the way.

Head to the Shri Rajiv Lochan Mandir, a historic temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu. The temple is fortified with twelve tall columns bearing intricate stone carvings of the various Hindu gods. Be enthralled by the designs adorning the walls, and the architecture of the majestic structure. A good time to visit is during the Rajim Lochan Mahaostav, one of the most happening fairs in Chattisgarh, occurring from 16 February to 1 March each year. Join in the fun at the popular festival, and admire artworks from many skilled artists on display on the temple premises. Sing and dance to performances by talented artistes, and watch riveting dramas and productions starring local actors.

Watching a cricket match, live, in the Shahid Veer Narayan Singh International Cricket Stadium. It is India’s second biggest cricket stadium, and the fourth largest in the world in terms of seating capacity. The world-class stadium hosted several games of the 2013 Indian Premier League, and boasts excellent facilities.

Near the International Cricket Stadium is MM Fun City, the largest water amusement park in Chattisgarh State. Float in the wave pool, zip down large water slides and enjoy music spun by a live deejay. There are also dry theme park rides for children, if they prefer not to get wet. Have lunch at the banquet hall, serving Indian, Chinese and continental cuisines.
