Serving the Spanish island of Tenerife alongside its smaller aviation counterpart in the North, Tenerife South Airport sits in Granadilla de Abona municipality and has been connecting the island to destinations around the world since its inauguration in 1978. The airport was previously recognised as Tenerife South-Reina Sofia Airport during its initial years, but has been conveniently shortened to just Tenerife South Airport today. As the main gateway of the largest island within the Canary Islands, Tenerife South Airport enjoys high levels of passenger traffic especially from fellow European neighbours like the United Kingdom and Germany. Some of the prominent airlines found to have included the airport as part of their extensive flight routes are Aer Lingus, Air Berlin, EasyJet and Ryanair. The airport also welcomes many seasonal flights operated by foreign airlines at various times throughout the year, mostly during winter. Operations at Tenerife South Airport are collated under one main passenger terminal building; and include amenities such as retail and dining options for passengers to indulge in at their convenience.

How to get around in Tenerife

The prominent green Tenerife Airport buses, for example, will bring passengers from their arrival gates to almost everywhere within the island. Line 343, in particular, will even get you across the island to the northern side where the other Tenerife airport is located in approximately 50 minutes with a direct journey. Should you need to get to the centre of town, Line 111 which will take you there. It also includes some great beaches in its route. Within the island, bus services are regular.

For a more convenient mode of commute, passengers may also consider hopping into a cab. Taxi ranks are available at the airport outside the arrivals hall and will get you downtown in a jiffy. Alternatively, passengers may also choose to rent a car for their entire stay and sightsee extensively.
