Unfortunately not a great experience!
It’s only a short (approx 10 min) walk from downtown so location is very good.
We got to our room to find 2 QS beds rather than the (preferred) king we’d asked for. No problem, we thought, they must be at capacity so we’ll just live with it. They were very comfy though!
Unfortunately, that’s about where the good ends.
The room was very ‘tired’. It was quite well appointed but it just needs a bit of a refresh. But that’s just cosmetic.
What is more of a problem is the housekeeping, or lack thereof. The housekeeping staff desperately need a tutorial on actual housekeeping.
After returning from our sightseeing on day 1, to say our beds had been made would be stretching it. They’d simply flipped the covers back over. The following day, was equally as bad.
There was no effort to even wipe down the bathroom vanity with hair being left in the sink. Now we’re not precious, and nor are we pigs, but when paying for accommodation there’s a level of expectation for some form of cleanliness. And we wouldn’t have thought it’s not too much to expect the bed to be made.
In addition, we had to request clean glasses. We washed them ourselves the first morning thinking it was an oversight but sadly it was the same the next morning. Again, just a simple thing but should be done without having to ask.
On top of all that, night 2, our toilet blocks and overflows. We threw a towel down in an attempt to stop the water. We called the front desk who sent maintenance to fix it. It was fixed quickly however, as they are about to walk out the door, my husband says “so, what about the floor?” and the response was, just use the towels to mop it up!!!
Like WHAATT??? Use the clean towels, the only clean towels to mop up a toilet overflow?!?!?
Firstly, it’s not our job to clean it and secondly, what did he expect we’d then use after our showers? Notwithstanding the fact that the toilet had overflowed on the floor so who knew what germs were lurking on the floor.
When my husband questioned it again, he said, “I’ll arrange for some more towels to be brought up”!
Yes, but what about the filthy, germy floor?!? By this time, we’d had enough so let him go and called the front desk again. Explained the deal and asked if someone could please come and mop the floor. We were assured this would happen. A few minutes later, a knock at the door and the fellow has extra towels and a spray bottle. He proceeds to spray the floor and tells us, it should be OK now!!
It’s so not OK, but clearly we are getting nowhere and not likely to. Our only option was to spread towels over the entire bathroom floor in the hope of a) not catching anything and b) that it’ll get a proper mop the following day - unlikely!!
By night 3, and again no fresh glasses, I went to the front desk to ask for some only to have the opportunity to speak to the Manager (Pam). She was so lovely, so very apologetic and, honestly I think a little disappointed that this had occurred. She offered a free breakfast, or discount, but that’s not what it’s about, it’s about simple basic housekeeping and hygiene. Nothing too much to ask, especially when you’re paying for it!
To add salt into the already stinging wounds, the toilet again blocks (thankfully didn’t overflow this time!) on the morning we’re preparing to checkout. Husband again calls the front desk, they send maintenance. It’s a familiar dance by now. Maintenance arrive, quickly fix the issue. Husband thanks them, mentions that it only happened the day before last to which the response was “yeah, it happens every couple of days.” Errggghhh!!
Would we stay here again? Hard no! Which is a shame but this experience has just left a very bad taste.
