Noise and impractical furnishings cloud the stay

In general
The hotel is located just outside Oberstdorf directly on the main road into Kleinwalsertal. We were not aware that the supply to the places in the Kleinwalsertal – including heavy goods transport, public transport and tourist flows – is exclusively via this road.
Before our arrival we were contacted by the reservation team by phone and were offered and booked an upgrade to a larger balcony room with mountain views. Unfortunately, there was no advice regarding the location of the room to the federal road and the associated noise pollution. A use of the balcony was not possible. Even on dry roads, traffic noise was often above 60 dB during the day, and significantly higher in rain or wet roads.
The financial aspect is annoying – money is fortunately just money. More importantly, however, we spent a week of vacation and lifetime with significant restrictions, which is bitter.
This is the main reason why we cannot recommend this hotel at an overnight price of 380 €.
Room
The room was clean but partly not very functional. The furnishings are rustic and of course designed with a lot of natural wood, which basically makes a nice impression. However, the decor appears only partially thoughtful. One gets the impression that the sustainability of the materials was the main focus of the design, while the practical use was less considered. Why the natural furniture is combined with old and damaged furniture is incomprehensible.
The bed has a wooden canopy with two side stabilizing bars, which gives a rustic character, but is impractical in everyday life. The side wooden poles that carry the canopy are in the way if you want to grab the bedside table. This will, for example, catch the phone's charging cable, or when drinking, the glass of water will fall over because you can't turn it off properly.
The TV is very small in relation to the room size. At a distance of about 4.5 meters from the bed, a 32-inch TV is only of limited use.
There is no sensible space in the room for preparing water or tea. We finally set up the kettle in the bathroom. In addition, things like kettles, cups or even hair dryers had to be brought to the room on demand, which is rather unusual in this price category.
The advertised “mountain view” is merely a side view of the mountain. On the main road is a row of trees that were without leaves in February. In summer, the view of the mountains is therefore obscured. You can only see the mountains over the neighboring balloons to the right or left.
Also disturbing was the opening and closing of the balcony doors. They can only be closed with considerable pressure, causing them to pop loudly. This becomes particularly annoying if several guests smoke in the neighbouring rooms and open and close the balcony door frequently. After every cigarette, the door slams again – even at night, when someone briefly walks onto the balcony to catch their breath.
Restaurant & bar
The restaurant and bar are decorated in the same style as the rest of the house, of course - Bavarian. The service was friendly, and the food is really varied and versatile. It matches the orientation of the house: without much frills, but tasty, diverse and down-to-earth.
Particularly worth mentioning is the baker of the house. We have never experienced such a wide range of breads in such good quality in a hotel.
Unfortunately, this very positive impression in the dining area can not outweigh the weaknesses in the room.
Ambience while eating
The ambience while eating was pleasant. The tables were attractively set, and the seats could be freely chosen. There were also no waiting times at the buffet, creating a relaxed atmosphere.
Service
When asked, the staff were always at pains and friendly. However, over time, one no longer felt like going to the reception or asking for every little thing again.
Activities
Leisure activities were OK. Those who wanted could participate in small hikes, whisky tasting or herbal lectures.
Pool
There is a heated outdoor pool. To swim a few lanes or for children to play the pool is sufficient.
Wellness
We really liked the saunas and the treatments offered. There are different saunas with different infusions, so there is variety. We also booked several baths and massages. The treatments were soothing and professional – thanks to Vicky for the pleasant treatment.
However, the number of loungers overlooking the mountains was limited. Here, the backrests can be adjusted for the loungers, but since they are very popular, they were occupied on busy days. In this area, the Wi-Fi of the hotel does not work, so you have to rely on a daily newspaper, which does not exist in the hotel.
Another lounging and relaxation area is located by the saunas. However, there are very massive natural wood loungers that cannot be adjusted. On these you lie practically flat as on a stretcher, which is less comfortable and leads to pain over time.
Value for money
Overall, we find the hotel significantly too expensive compared to our experience. An overnight price of 380 € with 3⁄4 gourmet board does not seem appropriate to us – despite the good quality of the food – if the room is at the same time restless and only partially functional.

Lieber Thorstenk 434,

Inflexible and unfriendly , despite travel warning from the DWD the hotel insisted on arrival and did not allow me to change my booking

Wanted to rebook travel warning or buy a voucher , was not approved, hotel insisted on arrival. Unbelievable for me as a guest , according to DWD there was danger to life and limb ! I would have liked to make my stay another day, but it was zero accommodating on the part of the hotel !

This is what holidays feel like

The stay was really wonderful: The staff were extremely friendly and helpful, the rooms and the entire hotel exude a feel-good atmosphere, the wellness area is unique (we have never seen the type of saunas before, including with pine wood and a bakery, we could relax superbly) and the food is excellent. As a vegan, I was particularly pleased that there were not only milk alternatives here at breakfast, but also vegan butter and spread. The hotel is also family-friendly and has daytime activities. In short: We would have liked to have stayed longer because that's what holidays feel like. We would definitely come back!

Short trip Hotel Oberstdorf

Location & surroundings
The hotel is located in Reute / directly on the access road to Kleinwalsertal. Bus stop within walking distance. The location is functional, but it speaks more for an arrival by car.
Room
I had a room in the DG (without balcony) facing the street. The traffic noise in the morning (traffic to Kleinwalsertal) was limited. The room was large enough with a modern shower room. Minus points: the carpeting in the room and in the hotel is a bit old and the bed with a felt width of 70-80cm too small.
SPA/Wellness
Several saunas, pool, jacuzzi available, but lacks a coherent Adults Only concept. I have grandchildren of my own, but when 10 children splash in the pool/whirlpool, that doesn't quite correspond to the wellness idea.
Service
Staff are very helpful and approachable at all times.
Catering
Diverse breakfast buffet, with all the trimmings, lunch snack also good.
Dinner in buffet form Good bourgeois tasty, but not comparable to the gastronomy of a 4-star superior hotel in Kleinwalsertal (e.g. Hallers), here you have to make significant compromises.
Price / performance ratio
I had paid a room rate of over 200 euros, incl. tourist tax and parking space, given the above. Limitations max. 3/5 stars.

Liebe(r) OnAir
