Unacceptable Hygiene Conditions – Treated with No Respect – Forced to Clean Myself

Let me start by saying that I booked this apartment because it appeared to offer everything I needed. I was about to be hospitalized at PAGNH hospital and was looking for a place nearby where I could feel safe and comfortable, as I was traveling alone.
I contacted the host in advance and explained both my situation and my health condition.
Little did I know I would arrive to find a horrible, dirty room — human hair all over the floor, empty bottles left behind by previous guests, toothpaste in the sink and shower, spiders and nests under the cabinets...
I immediately called the owner and asked him to come and see the apartment himself. The condition of the room was unacceptable. I requested that the studio be cleaned again, as I was leaving for dinner and would be returning late just to sleep. The next morning, I was scheduled to be admitted to the hospital for treatment.
The owner nodded in agreement — he didn’t even bother to apologize. I was already stressed about the following day, so I tried to let it go. I told myself, “It’s not a big deal… mistakes happen.”
Before returning to the studio that night, I called to check whether it had been cleaned. I believe I spoke with the other owner (if I understood correctly, they were two brothers). He rudely told me that “ok, there was some hair — probably from your luggage — but it was cleaned again as requested.”
I returned at 11 p.m., only to find the exact same situation, with one small difference: someone had mopped the floor, but the hair had just been pushed into the corners.
I burst into tears and started cleaning the space myself with just water and antiseptic — the only things I had with me. Thank God I had brought my own sheets and towels. I felt awful.
As soon as I was released from the hospital, I went out and bought proper cleaning products and started scrubbing the studio myself. It took me two hours. Can you imagine? And I did that just to feel able to stay there without being completely disgusted.
Of course, I tried to find another place to stay from the very first night, but there were no options available at such short notice.
I was treated with no respect, and I will never, ever forget this experience.
