Super for a few days break

We arrived at Villa Sylvia and were greeted by a lovely lady who made us feel very welcome.
There was free parking & wifi which was great and all worked perfectly!
Villa Sylvia is a 1 min walk to the "centre" and beach. The beach is amazing and only 2euros for a sunbed. Matala is a beautiful place with lots of character. Gorgeous bars & restaurants. We were only there 2 nights, wish we were there longer!

basic comfort, nice elder couple

Somehow expensive, considering that the rooms are basic (and small). I guess this is the 'matala spirit', where everything seems more expensive than the rest of Crete. Welcome to offer/demand market.
The location is quite central (hard not to, in this small town), in a nice back street. This alley leads to the 'red beach' on the other side of the hill, so don't hesitate to take a walk there.
No soap in the bathroom. Cash only. Dedicated parking in front. Nice elder people, but they will take your passport as 'deposit'.

Lovely People - Lovely Spot

Basic room, but a nice place centrally located just up from main market area - and easy to get to. You will fall in love with the elder couple that run the place to be sure. Try and find the time to sit with them and talk - they have been there a long time and seen all the changes that have happened in Matala, so they are a good history lesson.
The place is basic, but had a hard bed but did have nice small balcony out front to hang any laundry if you need...or to sit drink a glass of wine...
Breakfast was not included...but the price was so affordable we thought it was great value.

Traumhafter Aufenthalt in Matala

Wir hatten hier drei Nächte gebucht, haben uns dann aber entschieden (aufgrund des Schlechtwetters in anderen Regionen) zu verlängern und sind dann insgesamt 5 Nächte geblieben. Die Lage ist sehr gut. Es ist ruhig, aber trotzdem ist man nach wenigen Metern bei den ersten Cafes, Shops und beim Strand. Der Gastgeber war soooo herzlich. Er hat das Haus in dem Jahr von seinen Eltern übernommen. Unser Zimmer war klein, zweckmäßig eingerichtet, aber sehr sauber. Kritikpunkt unsererseits ist nur das winzige Bett, das bei jeder Bewegung gequietscht hat. Wir würden sofort wiederkommen (im besten Fall in ein Zimmer mit größeren Bett :)

Abbiamo prenotato nel mese di giugno tramite mail una camera per 2 notti ad agosto; ci hanno confermato la prenotazione rispondendo alla nostra mail.
Quando siamo arrivati alle 19,30 circa, un'anziana signora ci ha apostrofati in un inglese stentato che l'hotel era pieno e non c'era nessuna camera disponibile trattandoci con aria di sufficienza e accampando la giustificazione che ad agosto non si può pretendere di ottenere una camera libera.
Alle nostre rimostranze la signora ci ha indirizzati in un'altra struttura, gestita da una sua parente, dove ci è stata assegnata una camera di livello inferiore a quella promessa, ma allo stesso prezzo; vista l'ora e l'affollamento, nostro malgrado, abbiamo accettato.
E' stato evidente che non si è trattato di un disguido, ma che è proprio il loro modus operandi: accettano tutte le prenotazioni, ma le camere vengono poi assegnate alle prenotazioni di più lungo periodo e i turisti vengono smistati in altre strutture compiacenti di livello inferiore. Insomma, uno specchietto per le allodole.
Comportamento decisamente scorretto e per niente professionale.
