Very Authentic

We arrived at Riad Gaya mid evening after a taxi ride from the airport. We got a private driver who organised some people to help us with luggage and directions as the Riad is inside the old Medina and therefore not accessible by taxi. The staff at Riad Gaya, especially Ismail are fantastic. Nothing was too much trouble for Ismail and he went out of his way to help us. Riad Gaya is an authentic experience that is well worth doing. If you are looking for modern luxury this is probably not for you, but if you are looking for an authentic experience in the old town then the Riad Gaya is a great choice. We felt safe at the Riad and in fact wherever we went inside the Medina.

Robbed in front of Riad

Riad Gaya was very hard to find, and when we arrived there was no receptionist. On the first day there we got robbed by locals just outside and decided to switch to different hotel in the new Medina. When we asked to leave the receptionist made us overpay for a taxi by 170MAD (we paid for a taxi there for 30MAD from the same area the new hotel was in). Dangerous area, don’t carry cash around. If anything, stay in the New Medina, it is not worth the stress having to worry about getting hassled by locals every time you leave the Riad.

The worst experience we had in Morocco

We booked a room at Booking.com, with private WC and shower but, for our surprise, when we got there we're told that we had to pay more for a room with private WC.
The announce was pretty clear, so we contested and asked to talk to the owner. The manager was pretty gentle, but the owner was extremely rude and insisted that we had to pay for the toilet. As we had the reservation and it wasn't our fault, we got surprised with the owner's reaction.
When we said that we wouldn't stay, she still insisted that we had to pay anyway instead of trying to correct the situation. It was an abuse and she was extremely rude. Besides that situation, the walls had humidity, the location is not good and the rooms are very small.

Nice riad

Carefully renovated riad (well-priced rooms at ground floor level, more spacious rooms in upper floor), very friendly and helpful owner in a quiet residential neighbourhood right by the famous Medersa Ben Youssef.
