Travelling to Dubai? Find out about the new Baggage Rules at Dubai International Airport
What are the new Dubai International Airport baggage rules?
No round bags
No irregular shaped bags
No over-sized bags
Bags should have at least one flat surface
Irregularly shaped and over-sized baggage will not be accepted from March 8 2017.
Why has Dubai International changed its baggage rules?
This will help increase efficiency in the airport and prevent failures in the baggage delivery system. According to this new rule, round bags without a flat surface will not be checked-in. In order to avoid delays at the airport, passengers need to ensure that their baggage has at least one flat surface.
When did the baggage rule change come into effect?
The new regulation is effective since March 8, 2017. All airlines have been informed about the change. Dubai International Airport is ensuring that this is communicated to all travelers through their website, app and signage at the airport.
Does the baggage rule over-ride airline luggage allowances?
This is a Dubai International Airport ruling which will over-ride any airline specific allowances. Note: it does not cover off baggage weight allowances and you should always check with your airline if there are specific luggage weight and dimensions permitted.
Keep in mind!
The old rules! Liquids that you want to carry in your hand luggage should not exceed 100ml per container and must be placed in a clear, resealable plastic bag.
