History and Architecture: The region used to be farming and fishing settlement. In 1186, Düsseldorf came under the rule of the Counts of Berg. In 14 August 1288, Adolf VIII of Berg granted it town status. In 1380, it became the regional capital of the Duchy of Berg. After the Napoleonic Wars, Napoleon made Berg a Grand Duchy and Düsseldorf its capital. In the mid 19th century, Düsseldorf witnessed a revival due to the Industrial Revolution. It was captured by the American forces during World War II. The architecture of the city bears proud testimony to its rich legacy. Some of the notable buildings are Rheineturm, Gehry buildings, and Benrather Schloss.

Shopping: The Ko, which stands for Königsallee is a popular shopping destination. It is a great place to pick up jewellery, designer labels, and art. For more reasonable shopping, you can head to Shadowstrasse.
