Dubai International Airport is an international airport serving the bustling cosmopolitan city of Dubai. Terminal 3 of the airport is apparently the largest building in the world by floor space and the largest airport terminal in the world. Although Emirates is Dubai’s official airline carrier, which connects to over 100 destinations, Dubai also has Fly Dubai, which is a low budget airplane. Other lines that operate out of this extremely popular airport are known to be forever at a price war to what they promote as a glamorous Dubai, which can to your advantage when booking a ticket here.

What to see & do

Dubai is one of seven Emirates that make up the United Arab Emirates (UAE). It can be classed as a city-state and is the most liberal and progressive emirate in the UAE. Although Dubai is essentially a desert city, its superb infrastructure, liberal policies and classy tourist attractions combine to make it one of the most go-to destinations in modern-day travel. It has some of the best-known shopping facilities on the globe with ultra-modern malls and hotels that offer impressive entertainment experiences. The city has a long history and getting to learn about it through its many museums and forts makes for an intriguing time.

A trip through old Dubai is an excellent way to start your time in Dubai, before taking in all the super mod cons and tourist attractions that the new modern Dubai has to offer. Old Dubai is filled with so many photogenic gems such as the Jumeirah Mosque, which is a wonderful example of traditional Islamic architecture. The Bastakiya and Shindagh District respectively are of notable interest as they are home to many reconstructed buildings in traditional style and heritage museums. Don’t forget to take in architectural triumphs such as the Burj Khalifa, currently the world’s tallest building or the Burj Al Arab, the world’s only 7 star hotel, as well as the Dubai mall, the world’s largest mall. The Dubai Fountain is a spectacle to be witnessed at least once in your lifetime. The show is free and lasts one hour. During the show you’ll watch how jets of water are choreographed to music and are projected up to 500 foot high.

Getting Around

Taxis are the most common form of transport to and from the airport, and are easily found just outside the arrival hall -- make sure the meter is running when you start the journey. Dubai Metro (red line) also serves the airport and there is also a bus service that will take you to the Al Sabkha and Al Ghubiba bus terminals respectively

Dubai can boast of having the best public transport system in the Middle East. The metro, which boasts a 52km red line and 21 stations and counting, is a cheap and comfortable way of getting around the city although there are no stops in the old city centre as yet. The Dubai bus is the cheapest means of transport around the 7 districts of the city of Dubai. But the most tourist-friendly and worthwhile bus service is probably the hop on hop off service of the big bus company, which has stops at most of Dubai’s significant sites.
