The humble Maharana Pratap Airport (also known as Udaipur Airport or Dabok Airport) is spread over a land size of over 504 acres, only one asphalt runway, and a 250 by 150 metre apron which provides parking space for 3 Boeing 737s or Airbus A320 aircraft at a time. With only one boarding gate, the airport is easy to navigate. It serves flights to and from Mumbai and Delhi. Interesting facts about the airport -- scenes from the Hollywood movie, The Darjeeling Limited, were shot here, and the brand-new passenger terminal in 2008 was ready just in time for Aviation Minister Praful Patel's daughter's wedding in Udaipur. According to various user reviews, Udaipur Airport is very clean and quiet, similar to the many beautiful lakes in this Lake City. You can rest at Lalit Lounge, sip a cup of coffee and then embark on your Udaipur journey.

Situated 20 kilometres from the city centre, you will be able to flag a taxi or auto rickshaw from the front gate of the airport or hop onto your travel coach bus if you have one waiting for you. Similar to other cities in India, be sure to settle an amount before the taxi and auto rickshaw drivers start their engines. Those who rarely ride on the auto rickshaw can take the opportunity to ride on one, taking in the beautiful sights of the lakes and palaces. Udaipur is also often called the "Venice of the East" so don't forget to bring your camera along!
What to see and do
Many international movies like James Bond’s Octopussy, Darjeeling Limited, Opening Night, Heat and Dust, Indische Ring, Gandhi and The Fall were filmed here. Bollywood also filmed Guide, Mera Saaya, Phool Bane Angaray and Kachche Dhaage here, just to name a few from the long list of movies filmed in this beautiful destination. Your first stop at Udaipur should definitely be the City Palace on the east bank of Lake Pichola, where a massive series of palaces were built at different times. Go up onto the balconies of the palace, Rajasthan’s largest palace, for panoramic views of the Jag Niwas (Lake Palace Hotel).
Visit the Jagdish Temple, a large Hindu temple in the middle of Udaipur, which is a great example of Indo-Aryan Architecture and a main attraction of the city. Little stalls near the temple selling trinkets and souvenirs are also worth a visit! Take a leisurely boat ride on one of the magnificent lakes of Udaipur and watch the sun set behind the horizon. Lakes worth visiting include Fateh Sagar Lake and Lake Pichola. Fateh Sagar Lake also hosts the only solar observatory in Asia, Udaipur Solar Observatory, on the island in the middle of the lake. It is ringed by hills and is a popular local hangout.
