The primary international airport serving Montego Bay in Jamaica, the Montego Bay Airport is located around 4.5 km from Montego Bay and it is among the largest, busiest and most modern airports in the Caribbean. A public airport operated by MBJ Airports Ltd., the airport is at an elevation of 2 meters above sea level and has 1 asphalt runway measuring 2,653 meters in length. Officially known as Sangster International Airport, the airport is the busiest of the three Jamaican airports and has the capacity to handle 9 million passengers annually. Serving as a Caribbean hub for many airlines, the Sangster International Airport is named after Sir Donald Sangster, who was the former prime minister of the country. The airport has 2 terminals – Terminal F which caters to international passengers and Terminal C which is for domestic travellers. The Sangster International Airport is the busiest airport in the English-speaking Caribbean. The airport operates daily from 11:00z to 5:00z.


The conceptualization of the airport began in 1931, when the site of the present airport was finalized. The airport was opened on 18th February, 1947 and was named, Montego Bay Airport.  During that time it served as playground for the rich and famous and was a premier vacation spots within the Caribbean. Pan American Airways was the first and only airline to have been operating international flights until September 1949, when the Jamaican government took control of the airport. Since then the airport has seen multiple rounds of expansions and renovations.


The airport is base for Air Canada Rouge, Air Transat, American Airlines, Arkefly, Blue Panorama Airlines, Cayman Airways, Copa Airlines, Delta Connection, Caribbean Airlines, International AirLink, JetBlue Airways, Southwest Airlines and Thomas Cook Airlines along with many other airlines which operate regular passenger flights to and from the Sangster International Airport. While XL Airways France, White Airways, TUIfly Nordic, Sun Country Airlines, Satena Colombia, Frontier Airlines and Air Berlin operate seasonal flights, Airpak Express, FedEx Express, IBC Airways, Sunrise Airways and Tara Courier operate cargo airlines to and from the Sangster International Airport

How to Check-in

Online check-in and mobile check-in options are provided by most of the airline operating from Montego Bay Airport.  option of counter check-in is also available passengers are requested to arrive minimum of 2 hours before their international flight and at least 1 hour before schedule departure of domestic flight. Baggage Allowance
