WestJet Airline is basically based in Canada, it started off as nothing more than a low-cost airline carrier service. But now, it operates both scheduled and chartered planes to approximately 91 destinations in Canada, Europe, Mexico and the United States.

It was established in 1996 and is currently ranked as the second largest airline service after Air Canada. It now operates around 425 flights and carries a total of 45000 passengers every day! In 2012, it earned a total of $3.4 Billion Canadian Dollars and there was a 68% increase in the value of shares in 2012 as compared to those in 2011.

History

Initially after it was founded in 1996, all of its first routes were located in the Western regions of Canada; hence it was named the WestJet Airline. In the beginning due to some issue with the authorities the airline service had to ground all of its flights for approximately two weeks. But since then, it has not faced any major issues and has grown fiercely and rapidly in the right direction.

In 2000, WestJet, seized an opportunity and began operating flights in the East of the country. All of the flight operations on this side of the country were carried out using the John C. Munro Hamilton International Airport. In 2004, the airline initiated service to cities in the United States. In 2007 the airline added 7 new international destinations to its already budding list of routes and destinations like Mexico, Jamaica and Dominican Republic.

Fleet

Currently WestJet has a total of 126 active aircrafts. The main fleet consists of Boeing 737, and a huge proportion of these include Boeing 737-300. In July 2014, WestJet proclaimed that they were in the process of acquiring wide-body aircrafts, after thorough research they settled for Boeing 767-300ER. The first 2 jets will be introduced into the fleet at the end of February, 2015.
