Types of visas to France
France has 3 main visa categories of which the Schengen Short Stay Visa is required for a regular tourist visit. The other types of visas are Airport Transit Visa and Long Stay Visa. A Schengen Short Stay Visa allows you to stay in France for up to 90 days over a 180-day period.
If you already have a valid Schengen Short Stay Visa issued by another Schengen state, you do not need another visa to visit France. But, you will need proof of your reason for stay in France as well as your means of subsistence upon your arrival in France.
France visa application process
Headed to France? You are going to need your passport, a France visa and flight tickets. The following is a list of documents required for a Schengen Short Stay Visa application to France.
- A passport issued for less than ten years, and valid for at least three months after your planned date of departure from the Schengen area. The passport must also have at least two consecutive blank pages.
- Two recent ID photographs taken as specified.
- Documents (originals and copies) detailing the reason for your trip.
- Return flight tickets
- Hotel reservations
- A payment method for fee to be paid upon filing the application.
- A filled up online application form.
- An appointment for between three months and fifteen days before your departure date.
- Get your file checked, deposit fee, passport and biometrics (photograph and fingerprints) at the service provider centre.
Track your application directly with the embassy/consulate or the service provider, if you applied through one.
How much does a France visa cost?
