Patna Information Guide
Erstwhile known as Pataliputra, Patna is the capital and largest city in the state of Bihar. It is known to be one of the oldest inhabited places in the world, dating back to 490 BCE. Therefore, it was home of many astrologers and scholars, some of who include Aryabhata, Chanakya and Kalidasa. Today, it is one of India's fastest growing cities – yet its marvellous ruins and heritage remains well preserved. So if you're travelling from Kolkata to Patna, spare a day or two to visit some of them!
Weather
The weather is fairly pleasant between October through February and ranges from 12 to 32 degrees Celsius. This will give travellers from Kolkata to Patna a chance to explore the city. Try and avoid visiting in the summer, between March to June, as the weather is burning hot, with highs of over 40 degrees, making it unpleasant to spend the day outdoors. During the monsoons in July to August, you will have seasonal showers; however, the humidity level rises drastically. Visiting in the winter will allow you to experience the Chhatt Festival, which is celebrated only by Biharis on the 7th day after Diwali in reverence to the Sun God.
