If you love music or swaying to the beats then Ibiza, Spain is the place for you. This sun-kissed party-loving beach spot of the Balearics has a rich heritage that draws tourists due to its fascinating history and modern clubbing-party culture.

 

Climate:Ibiza weather is generally warm with summer temperatures reaching 30 degrees and winter temperatures rarely dropping below 13 degree Celsius.

 

Food:Ibiza’s cuisine is typically Mediterranean, with some European flavours thrown in the mix. Guisat/Bullit de peix (fish stew), Peix sec (salad),Sofrit Pagès,
Ray Borrida, Orelletes (Fritter biscuits) Tonyina a l'eivissenca (Ibizan-style tuna), macaroons, and Arròs de Matança (rice with pork) are Ibiza specialties, while Flao and Greixonera are favourite desserts.

 

Culture:While majority of Ibiza population is Roman Catholic, the social norms are largely modern (beachwear is limited to beaches). While Catalan is the official language, the local dialect Ibicenco is widely spoken. While the clubbing/party culture is the highlight of Dalt Vila, the quieter, traditional towns such as Es Vedra and Cala Comte have many little museums, galleries and churches which highlight Ibiza’s history. The Centre Sociocultural S’Alameda often hosts fantastic exhibitions.

 

History and Architecture:Ibiza architecture is a mix of classical and colonial styles. Architectural highlights include the Old Town walls and the enclosed Cathedral beyond, which were built for fortification purposes, the Hotel Montesol, Teatro Pereira, and the many light-coloured/white structures with porticos/porches.

 

Shopping:Ibiza has a number of shops both for bargains as well as high-end brands. Most shops open between 9-11 AM and stay closed during the afternoon.

 

Sightseeing in Ibiza:Beach holidays in Ibiza mean soaking in the sun and engaging in the many water sports and activities at Cala Bassa and Playa Cala Salada. Other places to see include Cathedral of Santa Maria d’Eivissa and Necropolis of Puig des Molins in Eivissa Dalt Villa, SES Salines National Park, Ibiza Port, Formentera, Ses Variades, the quaint old town of Santa Gertrudis and the interesting old quarry site at Atlantis.
