Jetlink Express Flights

Jetlink Express, a Kenyan regional airline had its headquarters at Freight Complex in Embakasi and operated out of Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi. Founded in the year 2006, the airline stopped all operations on 16th November 2012 onwards, citing financial problems and is currently undergoing debt restructuring proceedings in Kenya's High Court. When operational, the airline was in possession of 7 fleets and operated to 8 destinations around the world. Jetlink Express fleet had an average age of 17.7 years and included 3 Bombardier CRJ100 and 2 Bombardier CRJ200. Eldoret, Kisumu, Mombasa, Nairobi, Juba and Mwanza were some of the destinations which were connected by Jetlink Express. The airline operated daily scheduled flight along with charter flights and cargo aircrafts. When operational, the airline was a major airline in Kenya connecting Southern Sudan to the rest of the world. The ever growing client base was testimony to the popularity of the airline and has carried more than 300,000 passengers, thus making it among the most popular regional airline companies in Africa.

On January 28th, 2013, FastJet signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Jetlink to create a joint venture to launch the FastJet brand in Kenya. However, it is still in the pipeline. Effective 27 March2015, JetLink Express has renewed its air service license for a year, and is exploring various options to resume operations.

How to Check-in

When the airline was operations, counter check-in was the only available option as the airline did not have provision for online check-in. Passengers were advised to reach the airport minimum of 2 hours before departure of international flight and 1 hour before the departure of domestic flight. Passengers were asked to keep some buffer time to complete all formalities at the airport. In case passengers failed to report within the stipulated times, airline denied boarding.

Baggage Allowance

Passengers travelling with Jetlink Express were allotted 29 kg as hold luggage for those travelling in economy class. This limit varied from one class of airline to the other. As hand luggage, the permissible weight was 7 kg and maximum size of 55-cmx35cmx25cm for each traveller. Passengers were not allowed to carry dangerous and prohibited items life firearms, swords, antiques etc as hand luggage. For safety purpose, things like jewellery, gadgets and other expensive items were encouraged to be carried on flight. Charges were levied in case of excess baggage and passengers could pay for the same at the airport.


As the airline did not offer the option of online check-in, per selection of the seat at an additional cost was not available. Passengers could make a request for their preferred seat during the booking process or during the counter check-in and mostly their request was honored. Tickets were allotted on first come first serve basis at the airport, during counter check-in; hence passengers were requested to arrive a little early to get the seat of their choice, which was otherwise subject to availability. The airline was in possession of one 79-seater Fokker-28 aircraft and seven 50-seater CRJ aircraft having amount of leg space and were fitted with comfortable seats. Reservations were also required to be reconfirmed on or before the date advised by the airline personnel, so as to guarantee the booking of the flight.

Booking Fee

Online booking for flight tickets is the most popular convenient way to book you tickets and allowed the passengers to check the flight status, flights schedule and other detailed related to their flights. This service was however, chargeable. Passengers could also book their tickets from other ticket booking websites, or from authorized travel agents or from the counter of the airline at the airport.

In Flight Entertainment

When operational multiple option of in-flight entertainment was available for the passengers. Reclining seats, television, music and audio entertainment, messaging systems that allowed passengers to communicate with one another and with people on the ground, travel information, magazine flight, snacks and beverages and internet connectivity were some of the many in-flight facilities available for passengers travelling on Jetlink Express Airways. Hot meals and varieties of food options were available. While most of the services were available for business class passengers, those travelling in economy class had basic facilities.
