The Singapore international airport, which is knows as Singapore Changi airport is a major aviation hub in South East Asia connecting Singapore with more than 250 destinations across 60 countries in the world. Located around 17 km from the Changi city centre, it is operated by the Changi Airport group and serves more than 100 airlines operating 6,400 weekly flights.


The airport began its operation in the year 1981 and today the Changi airport in Singapore is the2nd busiest airport in Asia and 5th in the world. According to the statistical data, during the year 2012-2013, the airport handled 53.1 million passengers.The airport has won over 430 awards since 1981, including 30 'Best' awards in 2012. In the past 34 years, since it began its service, the airport has been under numerous renovations and up gradations to make it one of the best airports in the world.


There are a total of 3 passenger terminals at the Singapore Changi airport that has the capacity of holding 66 million passengers annually. While the construction of the 4th terminal is underway, the construction of the 5th terminal has been announced. The Singapore Changi airport is the second airport in Asia to have a dedicated terminal for budget travellers.

Terminal 1– This terminal began operations in 1981 and at present can alone handle 24 million passengers per year. Spanning on an area of 308,000 sq m, the terminal has a wide options of shopping, dining and relaxation areas. Developed on the thematic concept of ‘Tropical City’, the terminal has large floors which aids in comfort, better passenger movement and offers numerous retail and food & beverage options.

Terminal 2– Located adjacent to terminal 1, this terminal boasts of a movie theatre, gardens, free Internet surfing kiosks, shopping options, gaming stations and more. Singapore Airlines flights departing for Southeast Asia, Indian Subcontinent, the Middle East and Africa use this terminal to operate flights from Singapore and back. This terminal is also used by many other Southeast Asian carriers. This terminal has been operational since 1990.

Terminal 3– This is currently the biggest terminal at the Singapore Changi airport that has 2 dedicated shopping zones. Inaugurated in the year 2008, this is a green terminal with natural sky lighting, world’s first butterfly garden, a movie theatre and more than 130 outlets for shopping and dining. The terminal has 28 aerobridge gates, with eight capable of handling the Airbus A380.
