Shaheen Airlines- Fly high
Shaheen Airlines was the first private airline to start its operations in Pakistan with its commencement from December 1993. The Airline operates from its headquarters in Karachi at Jinnah International Airport. The services provided by Shaheen Airlines include Passenger services, Cargo services and other charter services. The Airline’s mission is to provide efficient and reliable services to its customers within affordable and competitive price ranges. The Airline operates for both domestic and international flights. The Airline’s hub is located within Karachi at Jinnah International Airport and two other secondary hubs located at Benazir Bhutto International Airport and Allama Iqbal International Airport located at Islamabad and Lahore respectively. Now Shaheen Airline is considered to be one of the few prestigious and reliable airlines operating in Pakistan and has gained the trust of its customers.
History
What began off as Shaheen International Airlines (SAI) in 1993 officially became Shaheen Air in 2004 and the Airline with a renovation in its livery and a new corporate website. Khalid Mehmood Sehbai was the founder of this airline and also served as the first chairman too. The company first operated nationwide flights within the country only, but soon expanded to flights from Quetta to Zahidan in Iran.
The Airline then experienced some problems with Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) in May of 2004 as it owed millions in debt to the authority and all flights were stopped for 3 days but soon the debts were cleared and the flights resumed. Today Shaheen Air is considered to be the fastest growing airline in Pakistan next to Pakistan International Airline with destinations ranging from Pakistan to Middle East. Now Shaheen Air has its own maintenance and repair organization which goes by the name of SEAMS ‘Shaheen Engineering and Aircraft Maintenance services’. The Airline takes its inspiration from an Eagle which is called a Shaheen in Urdu language.
Fleet
Shaheen Air has a moderate sized fleet consisting of 21 Aircrafts, and these aircrafts have an age of 18 yrs. On average. It has now let go of its old 737-200 aircrafts now makes use of Boeing 737-400 and two Airbuses (Airbus 330-300 and Airbus 320-200). Shaheen Airlines has also planned to include some ATRs in its fleet for better socioeconomic plans. The fleet is comprised as such:
- Airbus 330-300 – 3 Aircrafts
- Airbus 320-200 – 7 Aircrafts
- Boeing 737-400 – 10 Aircrafts
- Boeing 767-200 – 1 Aircraft
- 4 ATRs have also been ordered for future use
Awards
Due to its extraordinary achievements in a very short period of time, the government soon became aware of them and in recognition of their services awarded them the status of ‘Second National carrier ‘on 23rd of October in 1994.

The Airline operates on a total of 24 destinations with 10 of them being located in Pakistan only and other Middle Eastern countries include Iran, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, UAE and United Kingdom.
The destinations include, Mashad, Kuwait City, Muscat, Islamabad, Karachi, Lahore, Multan, Peshawar, Quetta, Skardu, Sialkot, Sukkur and many more.
