Bluff oysters should be another addition. Also try some Maori hangi - a traditional Maori way of cooking. For dessert, you must have the country’s favorite ice cream Hokey pokey.
Culture
Auckland is known as the country’s most cosmopolitan city. The population mostly consists of Maori people, people of British and/or Irish origin, Asians, etc. It is one of the last cities where you can taste authentic Maori cuisine such as hangi cooking or a Pavlova. History and Architecture
Auckland was inhabited by Maori people since 1300 or before. However, there were as many as only 20,000 people in the area at any given time. Even these came due to the rich, fertile land. The Europeans came in 1800s and named the land in the name of their royalty. Slowly and steadily from 1940 onwards, the city (read: country) started gaining independence. This influenced the architecture and other cultural elements such as language in the city. The city’s architecture is based on architectural innovations that happened in Europe, with buildings representing Baroque, Neoclassical, and Georgian styles even. Today, the architecture has taken a turn towards modern engineering.

There are plenty of shopping malls in the city, mostly concentrated around middle and/or outer suburbs; Sylvia Park and Westfield Albany are the largest. Weekend flea markets at Otara and Avondale will give you an opportunity to shop for stuff in bulk at competitive prices.
