If you ask ten people for the capital of Turkey, at least nine would say that it is Istanbul. However, the capital of Turkey is Ankara, not Istanbul. Climate
Due to the city’s location on a transitional climate zone, it experiences different climates along different areas. Food
Istanbul is a hub for Turkish cuisine such as kebabs. Seafood is the staple food in the city. The oldest and the most famous restaurants serving this cuisine are open along the shores of the Bosphorus. Istanbul is the country’s most culturally rich city. The Hagia Sophia is a reminder of the transition of the city’s culture and the influence of its rulers. The culture in the city has always leaned towards art, the glimpses of which can be seen in the city’s museums. History and Architecture
Istanbul had been an active part of Byzantine and Ottoman rule, serving as the capital of both these empires. After the Turks shifted their focus to Ankara, the development of this city lay still for quite a bit of time. However, today Istanbul is a developed city with many proud monuments, specially its museums. Most buildings in old Istanbul are built on Ottoman architecture bases, such as the Topkapi Palace,while those in Istanbul modern are as contemporary as they can get.
