Reykjavik is Iceland’s capital. The scenic city holds so many distinctions. It is one of the cleanest, greenest, and safest cities in the world. History and Architecture:Reykjavík was the site of the first permanent settlement in Iceland. Ingólfur Arnarson established it in 870 AD. The city was founded in 1786 as an official trading town. Over the next few years, it saw rapid development and morphed into a commercial and political hub. What the city lacks in size, it more than makes up for in architecture. The city has many defining landmarks such as Hallgrímskirkja and Hofdi House.
Shopping: Laugavegur is the coolest area to shop. It is a great place to pick up streets where boutiques, designer labels, arts and crafts galleries and jewellery. For clothing, accessories, electronics and home ware, head to Kringlan. Íslandia is an ideal bet for souvenirs such as woollen goods and Norse and Viking trinkets. You can also check out the flea market on Laugardalur.
