The capital of West Bengal, Kolkata is rich in culture, art and cuisine. It is usually referred to as the City of Joy as well as the cultural capital of India. Climate
The city has a tropical wet-and-dry climate. On an average the temperature is between 19 to 30 degrees Celsius. Summers, that is March to June, are humid and quite hot. In May; however, the temperatures may exceed to 40 degrees Celsius. In June, the city often faces heavy rainfall and dusty squalls followed by thunderstorms. Winters are generally pleasant with December and January being the coldest.
Culture
Whether its art or literature, Kolkata has a deep-rooted history filled with revolutions. Some of the most famous people like Rabanindranath Tagore, Ram Mohan Roy, Swami Vivekananda and Satyajit Ray belong to this city. You should definitely visit the museums when you are in the city, so that you can see the artefacts and what makes Kolkata truly rich in culture and heritage. Visit the Hindu temple called Dakshineswar Kali Temple and marvel at the intricate detailing and design. The city also has a Science City, which is the largest in India. The shopping centre is located near Ghariahat Road in Dhakuria, near the flyover. The bazaar offers jewellery, spices, home décor and materials as well.
