IndiGo Airlines entered the Indian domestic air-travel market after every other big player (in 2006) and yet, it has managed to bag the largest market share in a matter of only 6 years since commencement of operations! With more than 27% of the market commanded by them, IndiGo Airlines serves 33 destinations including 28 domestic and 5 international destinations. The corporate office of IndiGo Airlines is based in Gurgaon, Haryana with its primary hub at Indira Gandhi International Airport. Since it has dethroned Jet Airways from the position of market leader, IndiGo Airlines has prided itself in being the fastest growing airline carrier in South Asia. Being an exclusive low-fare air carrier, IndiGo Airlines doesn’t offer Business class or First class air travel, however, with for some additional fare in-flight complimentary meal is offered to passengers. This steadfast no fringe strategy has helped IndiGo Airlines maintain its consistent profit margin in a highly competitive and nearly bleeding domestic market. IndiGo Airlines operates a very young and all exclusive Airbus fleet with 62 aircrafts in service, selling away any aircrafts older than 6 years. IndiGo Airlines is also in a heavy expansion mode placing huge orders for new Airbus Aircrafts. Despite its strictly low fare and no-fringe approach, IndiGo Airlines have managed to achieve a highly positive public opinion with its punctual and persistently low cost service. As a proud winner of Skytrax Best Low Cost Carrier (LCC) award over the past 3 years, IndiGo Airlines have maintained an unbeatable streak of success in providing customers with dependable service at the lowest possible prices.
To reduce operational overhead, IndiGo operates only the Airbus A320-200 family of aircraft in its fleet and IndiGo usually purchases new aircraft. IndiGo operates 51 aircraft of that type, with an average age of 2.3 years.
