Operating under the name of AeroMexico, Aerovías de México, S.A. de C.V. is Mexico’s flag carrier and the biggest player on the domestic air transportation market. The airline company operates mainly from the hub at Mexico City International Airport, having three secondary hubs at Don Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla International Airport in Guadalajara, General Ignacio PesqueiraGarcía International Airport in Hermosillo and General Mariano Escobedo International Airport in Monterrey.

Using a fleet of 69 aircrafts the company has regular passenger flights to 56 destinations, both domestic and international. Destinations outside Mexico include the Americas (North, South and Central), Europe, Asia and the Caribbean. Also AeroMexico is one of the founding members of the SkyTeam alliance, of which it is still part.


The company was established in 1934 as Aeronaves de Mexico and made its maiden voyage the same year. During WWII the company saw great development as it was supported by the PanAm Company which owned 25% of AeroMexico. Things kept going in an upward trend in the 1950s as well, the airline company buying several smaller companies in Mexico. The 1970s was a decade with many changes for the company as all domestic airline were merged in one network and nationalize under the control of Aeronaves de Mexico. In 1972 the company got its current name. In the following decades a modernization of the fleet went on and this process is still ongoing.


AeroMexico’s fleet is completely made out of Boeings, 69 of them of which 3 are leads. Here’s a list of all the aircrafts owned by AeroMexico at this moment:

·         Boeing 737-700 – 24 units

·         Boeing 737-800 – 27 units, with 28 more ordered and 10 optional

·         Boeing 767-200ER – 2 units

·         Boeing 767-300ER – 2 units

·         Boeing 777-200ER – 4 units

·         Boeing 787-8 – 7 units with 3 more on the way.

AeroMexico will also be diversifying its fleet with two new Boeing models:

·         Boeing 737 MAX 8 -  60 units expected with 30 optional

·         Boeing 787-9 – 6 units ordered with 4 optional


AeroMexico has won several prizes and awards for the quality of its services, some of them being:

·         Mexico-UK International Leader Award – 2013 –for strengthening the relationship between the two countries.

·         Nezahualcóyotl Award – received at the 15th anniversary of the Mexican-Chilean Integration Chamber

·         Best Airline in Mexico – 5 years running, awarded by Global Traveler

·         First Place Effie - 2003

Routes and Destinations

AeroMexico has a total of 56 destinations and several codeshare agreements within the SkyTeam alliance and outside of it. Some of the 56 destinations are domestic while most are international including cities in Europe, North America, Central America, South America and Asia. Besides regular flights AeroMexico has some vacation destinations that are only available during certain periods of the year.
