TUIfly Flights

German airlines owned by travel and tourism company TUI Group, TUIfly is a leisure aircraft operated which has its headquarters at Hannover Airport and has many bases across the country. At present Cologne Bonn Airport, Düsseldorf Airport, Frankfurt Airport, Hamburg Airport, Hannover Airport, Munich Airport, Saarbrücken Airport and Stuttgart Airport are the major focus cities of the airlines. The airline was formed by the merger of Hapag Lloyd Flug and Hapag Lloyd Express in the year 2007 and has a fleet strength of 40 that flies to more than 39 destinations across the world. The airline offers regular as well as seasonal scheduled as well as charter flights to destinations in Europe, Africa, and Asia. TUIfly belongs to Vermarktungs GmbH, which is a subsidiary of TUI Deutschland GmbH.

The fleet of the airline is inclusive of 6 Boeing 737-700 and 34 Boeing 737-800. All the Air Berlin operates all TuIfly aircrafts with Germany and other non-tourist destinations after entering into a strategic partnership on 27th March 2009. As per the contract, both TUIfly and Air Berlin hold 9.9% stake of each other and Air Berlin wet-leased 17 aircraft from TUIfly and took over TUIfly’s entire city connections. In December of 2013, the airline changed its patent yellow livery to the new blue design which is already used by Arkefly, Jetairfly and Thomson Airways. The airport changed its operating base to Saarbrücken Airport from at Zweibrücken Airport due to uncertain future of the Zweibrücken Airport.

How to check-in

Multiple check-in options are available for passengers travelling on TUOfly. Passengers can web check-in from 30 days to five hours before all flight departures. They can do on the website of the airline and can print their boarding pass. Please note that the facility of baggage drop-off for the evening before the flight has been suspended from 1st April, 2015. Option so counter check-in is also available but TUIfly charges 5.00 EUR per person, for passengers more than 2 years old, for checking-in at the airport. If you are travelling in group of more than 9, then web check-in is not an option and check-in at the airport is free for those travelling in groups. Carry your passport, visa and all travel documents before entering the airport.

Baggage and Allowance Fee

The free baggage allowance on TUIfly flights can be different, depending upon the class of travel and the type of ticket purchased. If you have bought a ‘Pure Fare ticket’, then no free baggage allowance is allotted. For passengers travelling with ‘Perfect Fare’, they can check-in up to 20 kg of baggage while those travelling in ‘Pure Economy’ can check-in up to 30 kg. The airline does not check-in a hold luggage which exceeds more than 32 kg in weight. As had baggage the maximum weight is 6 kg and maximum dimension is 55 cm x 40 cm x 20 cm. Passengers can carry one small personal bag as well. Go through the list of prohibited items from the website of the airline to avoid last minute confusion at the airport. If you are travelling with excess baggage, charges will be applicable.


Passengers travelling with TUIfly have the option of pre selection of seat, which can be done during the online check-in. Depending upon the class and destination of travel passengers are charged between 13 € to 25 € for different seats. Three types of seats are available – regular seats, comfort seats with up to 11 cm more leg room, XL seats with up to 23 cm more leg room. Those who travel with pets in the cabin are not permitted to sit on the aisle. The seats in the flights are comfortable with decent leg space.

Booking Fee

Tickets can be booking online and online booking is the most convenient way to book your flights on TUIFly. Tickets can also be purchased form the counter of the airline at the airport or from the authorized travel agents. Passengers are allowed to rebook their ticket, modify date, name as well as cancel their existing flight reservation, but charges are levied. In case of such an event, call the airline directly. Online flight reservation not only allows you to pre book your flights but you can also get flight information, flight status and other details related to your flight.

Inflight Entertainment and Meals

If you travelling to Cape Verde, Egypt, Greece, Israel, southern Italy, Morocco, Portugal, Spain, Canary Islands, and Tunisia you will be offered free snacks, drinks and meals. For passengers taking long haul flights to Canary Islands, Egypt, Cape Verde and Madeira, hot meals are served on board. Passengers travelling on discount travel can buy food on flight and variety of options is available. For those in Premium economy empty center seat for more leg room and gourmet meal including selected alcoholic beverages is offered. Neck pillows and hot towel are available for guests at request.
