Nice Côte d'Azur Airportis an international airport in France. It is located 5.9 kilometers southwest of Nice at the Alpes-Maritimes. The airport is the third busiest in France. It is main hub for easy jet and main airport for Air France. It handles an average of 11.5 million passengers per year.

History

The history of this airport dates back to 1910. That year, the air show took place. Flights began in 1918 between Nice and Corsica. The airport came into being in the late 1920s. Air Ministry commissioned its construction.

During the Second World War, the military and the air force used the airport. The airport remained under developed until the end of the war between 1944 and 1945. Improvement began during those years. The construction of hard surface runway began. After construction, Air France began flying between Paris and Nice. The flying became so popular during that time.

The number of passengers began to increase by 1950. It rose to an average of 200,000 per year. The number started to increase steadily. In 1964, the number of passengers the million mark. By 1974, the population of travelers had reached two million. This made the Air Ministry to expand the terminals and increase the length of the runway to about 2,700 meters. Holiday package and the jumbo jet service brought prosperity to the airport. In 1978, a new second runway opened. Its construction was from the land that was reclaimed from the sea.

In 1987, there was a construction of a new terminal. The construction cost more than French Franc 300million. The terminal has banks and cash withdrawal facilities. Terminal one has a post office where as terminal two has an internet kiosk. Wi-Fi services are available in whole airport. Both terminals have duty free shops and dining facilities.
