Tirupati in an alluring city in the state of Andhra Pradesh. It has much to offer a traveller – be it natural beauty, architectural wonders, beaches, and even a wildlife sanctuary. Climate
Being the 'Spiritual Capital of Andhra Pradesh,' Tirupati sees throngs of visitors all year through. While the crowds are unavoidable, you could plan your trip to coincide with cool weather so that you are as comfortable as can be. In March to September, summer temperatures soar to as high as 45 degrees Celsius, so if you do travel, try and sightsee during the early morning or late evening hours. Cooler temperatures prevail in winter when the minimum temperature is around 20 degrees Celsius, so do pack light jackets to keep you warm. The weather is also bearable during the monsoons, from July to September.
Venkateshwara Temple
Venkateshwara Temple is known by several names – Tirumala Temple, Tirupati Temple and Tirupati Balaji Temple are just some of them. Lord Sri Venkateshwara, an incarnation of Vishnu, is believed to have appeared at the spot where the temple now stands to save mankind from the tribulations of Kali Yuga. The temple dates back to 300 AD and is constructed in Dravidian style architecture. 50,000 devotees visit the temple every day to get a glance of the presiding deity, adorned with gold, diamonds and flowers, standing under the gilded dome. On special occasions like Brahmotsav in September, the number of visitors exceeds 5,00,000, making Tirupati the most visited holy place in the world.
Sightseeing at Tirupati
If you're travelling from Mumbai to Tirupati, chances are you already have Venkateshwara Temple on your agenda. However, there is much more to do here. Visit the Akashganga Waterfall, a few kms from the temple which is a divine waterfall used for bathing deities. The Papa Vinashanam is water body and Puskarini Tank is a tank where devotees purify themselves. The Shila Thoranam is a rare archaeological wonder that you can visit, too. Lastly, try to visit Sri Kalahasti Temple, an hour's drive away from Tirupati which is a temple dedicated to Lord Shiva.
Tips for travellers to Tirupati
Remember, Tirupati is a religious place, so carry conservative clothing. Indian traditional attire such as saaris, salwar kameez and kurtas with dupattas is acceptable clothing. It would be advisable not to carry valuables as you wouldn't want them to get lost/stolen in the crowd. Carry an extra lock for your hotel room as well. You can also book a VIP break darshan which will get you inside the main chamber of the temple within a few hours.
