Jabalpur is a flourishing city in the Madhya Pradesh state of India. It holds the proud distinction of being an agricultural as well as an industrial hub. This scenic city attracts hordes of visitors from around the world each year.

 

Climate: It has a humid, subtropical climate. During summer months, temperatures soar as high as 45 degree Celsius. Monsoon lasts till October. During winter, temperatures fall to 15 degree Celsius. Spring and autumn are ideal times to visit the city.

Culture: The city wears its cosmopolitan outlook with pride. It is home to many religions and communities. The city was awarded the title of Sanskaari Dhaani or Cultural City due to its many cultural inventions and many traditional rituals. It celebrates a number of festivals in a grand way, the biggest ones being Navratri and Dusshera.

 

History and Architecture: The region was once ruled by Raja Bamraj Dev (ruled c. 675–800 CE) of the Kalachuri dynasty. In the 13th century, it was captured by the Gonds. Subsequently, it was ruled by the Mughals and then the Marathas, and Beohars. In the early nineteenth century, it was annexed by the British and became a cantonment town.  The city is home to many heritage buildings which reflect its colonial past. Commissioner’s Residency, Church of England, and Children’s Hospital are some of the notable examples.

 

Shopping: Head to the Old Bazaar to pick uptraditional handicrafts and ethnic clothes. Be sure to carry terracotta items for the people back home. You can also buy jute crafts, silver, brass ware items, along with the exclusive Chanderi and Maheshwari saris.

 

Sightseeing in Jabalpur: Must-see attractions of the city are Marble Rocks, Bheraghat, Shiva Parvati Temple, Balance Rock, Bargi Dam. You can also plan excursions to Kanha, Bandhavgarh or Pench Wildlife Sanctuaries.
