Montreal is a bustling city in the Canadian province of Quebec. It is the second largest city in the country. Named after the triple peaked hill in the city, Montreal is an art and music lover’s delight. It is also a hub for commerce, aerospace, finance, pharmaceuticals, technology, design, culture, tourism, gaming, film and world affairs.

 

Climate: The city experiences wet, warm summers and cold, snowy winters. During summer, temperatures reach 74°F (25°C) and fall below freezing point in winter. It rains around the year. The best time to visit is summer when the days are sunny and pleasant.

Food: Montreal is famous for its French cuisine. History and Architecture: Montreal was founded as a missionary village in 1642. It was controlled by the French until 1760, when the British arrived. Montreal was incorporated as a city in 1832. The city served as the capital of the United Province of Canada from 1844 to 1849. By 1860, Montreal was the largest city in British North America and a cultural and economic hub.

The city boasts of stunning architecture and is home to 50 National Historic Sites of Canada. They include Notre-Dame de Montréal Basilica, Bonsecours Market, Saint Joseph's Oratory, Art Deco Université de Montréal, and Place Ville Marie.

 

Shopping: Head to the world’s only Underground City to shop. Or try out theMarché Jean-Talon and Marché Atwater, the local markets. Then there is Avenue Laurier Ouest for clothes, Cours Mont-Royal for designer clothes accessories, and Ste-Catherine Street. You can pick up classic souvenirs like aboriginal art, local artisan works, furs, polished stone jewellery, leather goods and musical instruments.
