Ethiopian Airlines
Often called Ethiopian, Ethiopia’s flag carrier Ethiopian Airlines is a 71-year-old airline which commenced operations in the year 1946. Wholly owned by the Ethiopian government, Ethiopian Airlines has been an International Air Transport Association member since 1959, an African Airlines Association member since 1968, and a Star Alliance member since December 2011. The airline is headquartered at Bole International Airport in the country’s capital, Addis Ababa, and flies to more destinations in the African continent than any other carrier. It has the reputation of being one of the few profitable Sub-Saharan airline companies, and is one of the largest in the African continent and the fastest-growing companies in the region.

The Ethiopian Airlines fleet consists of 4 Airbus A350-900s, 8 Boeing 737-700s, 16 Boeing 737-800s, the Boeing 737 MAX 8s (in order), 6 Boeing 767-300ERs, 6 Boeing 777-200LRs, 4 Boeing 777-300ERs, 17 Boeing 787-8s, Boeing 787-9s (in order), 19 Bombardier Dash 8 Q400s, 2 Boeing 757-200PCFs, and 6 Boeing 777Fs – A total of 88 aircrafts.

Except for the Dash 8s which feature only Economy class, all Ethiopian aircrafts have both Cloud Nine (Business Class) and Economy Class.

Meals
Passengers are provided with meals, snacks and complimentary beverages on board all flights and in both classes. Food includes hot meals, hot and cold snacks, light refreshments, etc. depending on the time of the day. The airline also takes special meals requirements in advance.

However, the following destinations are exceptions to online check-in – Mali, Republic of Congo, Democratic Republic of Congo, Kenya, Chad, Burkina Faso, Seychelles, UK, Yaounde Nsimalen, Ndola, Niamey, Libreville and Abidjan. For physically checking in, all counters open 3 hours before and close 1 hour before departure. Online check-in is available from 36 hours to 2 hours before departure for all domestic and international flights. On all domestic Ethiopian routes, checked baggage allowance is 30kg (Cloud Nine Business Class) and 20 kg (Economy). On all international routes (except routes between Middle East and all other stations), checked bag allowance is 2 pieces 32kg each or 3 pieces 23kg each (Cloud Nine) and 2 pieces 23kg each (Economy).
