History and Architecture: The region was inhabited by indigenous tribes. The first European landed herein 1516. During the 17th and 18th centuries, it was firmly under Spanish rule. In 1806 the British invaded Buenos Aires. In 1880, the city was federalized. It became the seat of government, and a Mayor was appointed by the President. The city is the best place to see Spanish colonial architecture. Cabildo on Plaza de Mayo is a great example. The city is also home to Art Noveau Italian Renaissance styled architecture.
Shopping: Slake your thirst for shopping at Avenue Santa Fe or Florida Street. Visit the market at San Telmo for great bargains. For leather, head to Murillo Street and be rewarded with funky and colourful designs.
Sightseeing in Buenos Aires: Cabildo, Casa Rosada, La Recoleta Cemetery, Buenos Aires Zoo, Botanical Gardens, Cathedral Metropolitana, and La Boca are worth exploring.
