Bhopalis the capital of Madhya Pradesh and was the capital of the former Bhopal State. It is called the City of Lakes as it has many natural as well as artificial lakes and is also one of the greenest cities in India.
Climate: Bhopal has a humid subtropical climate, with cool, dry winters, hot summers and a humid monsoon season. Summers start in late March and go on till mid-June. The average summer temperature is around 30 °C, and the highs regularly exceed 40 °C in May. The monsoon starts in late June and ends in late September. These months see about 40 inches of precipitation, with frequent thunderstorms and flooding. The winter average temperature is 16 °C in January.
Food: Bhopali dishes and food in Bhopal are mild, not very spicy and unique in taste. Bhopali food has a large variety of non-vegetarian dishes, including Bhopali murgh rezala, paneer rezala, Bhopali gosht korma, murgh hara masala rice and murgh nizami. Various popular snacks which are common in the country can be found in its many restaurants with mild variations.
Culture: Diwali and Eid are the major festivals in Bhopal. Bhopali culture is such that both Hindus and Muslims visit each other on their respective festivals to greet and exchange sweets. Diwali is celebrated by worshiping the wealth goddess Lakshmi. Eid is special to the city as all the Hindus visit their Muslim friends and greet them and eat delicacies like sweet sewaiya. During Ganesh puja and Durga Puja, idols of Ganesh and Durga are taken throughout the city. People visit the stalls to offer prayers to their local deities.
History and Architecture: Bhopalis said to have been founded by the king Bhoja of the Paramara dynasty (AD 1000–1055), who ruled from his capital at Dhar. It was earlier known as Bhojpal after a dam was constructed by the king's minister. Later, in 1984, the city came into news after the Bhopal disaster, when Union Carbide India Limited’s pesticide manufacturing plant leaked a mixture of deadly gases. The city has some impressive buildings like the Shaukat Mahal, where Gothic and post-Renaissance styles have been combined to produce a charming structure. Bhimbetka, 46 km south of Bhopal is another archaeological treasure, which has over 600 rock shelters belonging to the Neolithic age with paintings in over 500 caves.
Shopping: The two important markets in Bhopal are Chowk and New Market. These market areas offer a variety of colorful items. The Bazaars in Bhopal are ideal for buying gifts and souvenirs for your dear ones back home. Bargaining is a must so you can get the best price for your gifts.

There are three routes to reach the airport- via Bairagarh, Panchvati, or Gandhi Nagar road. Take the VIP road from the city to reach the airport.Bhopal has its own city bus service operated by Bhopal City Link Limited which you can use to get to the airport. Also, you can use one of the 600 mini-buses that are run by private operators. Radio Taxis and auto-rickshaws are also major means of transport.
