Featured by Skytrax as one of the top Indian airports, the Hyderabad Rajiv Gandhi International Airport continues to excel in terms of customer service. The airport is named after the former Indian Prime Minister, Rajiv Gandhi. The airport is relatively new, having opened in 2008. It operates a wide selection of international and domestic flights and serves as a hub for Spice Jet, Lufthansa Cargo and Blue Dart Aviation.
There is currently only one terminal at the airport. The terminal is undergoing further expansion plans to accommodate the increase in passenger numbers. A second terminal is being constructed to cater for low-cost airlines.
Services and Facilities
Lounge. There are 13 lounges at both the domestic and international areas at the airport. For those who want exclusivity, there are 3 VIP lounges, which offer guests superior facilities such as high speed WiFi, refreshments and showers. If you’re willing to splurge, head to the Plaza Premium Lounge where you will be treated like royalty!
Wifi/Internet Services. The first 45 minutes of WiFi usage is free. Get Internet access at several kiosks around the terminal buildings.
Business & Conference. There are currently no business centres for guests at the airport. The nearby Novotel Hyderabad Airport provides meeting rooms with a capacity of between 4 to 450 people for guests travelling for business.
Shopping. There are shops selling souvenirs, and locally produced products such as rugs and t-shirts. Guests can proceed to the duty-free outlets to purchase cheap liquor like Johnnie Walker, Smirnoff Vodka and Chivas Regal. Smokers can choose from a whole range of cigars, tobacco and cigarettes at the duty-free stores.
General Services. There are several banks, bureaux de change and ATMs located around the terminal. There are helpdesks available at the terminal offering guests information on tours, attractions and hotel reservations. For Muslims, there are prayer rooms at various locations in the terminals. Spa and shower facilities are also available in the domestic departure area. Craving a nicotine fix? There is a smoking lounge available in the terminal building. The airport is also equipped with medical facilities and a pharmacy to assist with first aid needs.
Eating Facilities. There is a wide selection of restaurants, cafes and fast-food outlets. For a wider choice of vegetarian food, head for the Airport Village for some scrumptious food at reasonable prices.
Transit Hotels. There is one regular hotel at the airport and also a small transit hotel which offers studio rooms with showers.
