Start your adventure by exploring one of Hyderabad's principal landmarks, the Charminar which was built by Mohammed Quli Qutb Shah in 1591 to celebrate the founding of Hyderabad and the end of the epidemic caused by the Golconda’s water shortage. Home to the oldest mosque in the city, get ready to be awestruck by the 56m-high monument. Get ready to lose yourself at the crowded Laad Bazaar, a marketplace that sells literally everything from fine perfumes to fabric to secondhand saris. Hunt for cheap and genuine pearls along the lanes lining Charminar.

Explore the 35,000 exhibits and more than 50,000 books collected from every corner of the world. The Nizams’ impressive jewellery collection is a must-see alongside the Persian miniature paintings and illuminated manuscripts and weapons on display. If you haven’t had enough, visit the Chowmahalla Palace where you are able to see bejewelled clothes, grand carpets and antique cars. Did you know, one Nizam allegedly used a Rolls Royce as a garbage can!

The Nehru Centenary Tribal Museum also gives you a glimpse of the 33 tribal groups based mostly in the northeastern part of the state. Gain an understanding of their culture and way of life. Getting Around

The airport is conveniently located away from the city. There are free shuttle buses that run to the airport’s Public Transportation Centre (PTC). If you’re heading to the city from the airport, consider taking the local APSRTC buses or The Pushpak Airport Liner as these bus services are frequent, convenient and cheap. Alternatively, you can easily get metered taxis operated by Sky Cabs and Meru from the taxi stands outside the airport terminals.

Within the city, it is especially convenient to take taxis and auto rickshaws which are cheap and plentiful. There is a 50 per cent surcharge which applies between 10pm and 5am. The new electronic meters don’t usually work or many drivers tend not to use them so be prepared to negotiate. Avoid taking the buses because they are usually crowded. Despite the attractions and districts being all spread out in this city, it is still possible to explore Hyderabad on foot. Venture into the narrow alleyways and through the maze of disorienting lanes to discover the city.
