Let's explore all the necessary travel documents, visa types, and health requirements for Indian citizens visiting Portugal.
Portugal visa requirements for Indian citizens
Travellers need a visa to visit Portugal for Business or Tourism.
Travellers must obtain a paper or embassy visa from an embassy, consulate or visa center before travelling.
This visa requirement doesn’t apply to the following travellers:
- Travellers who hold a valid long-stay visa or residence permit issued by a Schengen member state.
Travellers under 18 entering Portugal without a parent or guardian who holds parental responsibility must carry a written authorization letter.
The letter must be signed and dated by the parent or guardian with parental responsibility, with the signature certified by a notary. The letter must include the dates and reason for travel and details about the adult responsible for the minor. It may also identify other individuals permitted to accompany the minor.
The letter is valid for the period stated in the document, up to 1 year. If no time limit is stated, the letter is valid for 6 months from the date of signature.
Without proper authorization, Portuguese authorities may refuse entry.
Travellers should also review any airline policies, as they may have additional requirements for minors beyond standard rules.
This requirement doesn't apply to the following travellers:
- Travellers accompanied by a parent or guardian who holds parental responsibility for them.
Travellers must have travel health insurance when visiting Portugal.
Insurance should cover at least EUR 30,000.00, be valid in all Schengen countries, and cover the entire duration of stay.
Travel Medical Insurance
Travellers can use the Travel to Europe mobile app to pre-complete the entry questionnaire within 72 hours before arrival to speed up border checks. Using the app is optional but recommended.
The EU Entry/Exit System (EES) is a new digital border process for non-EU nationals travelling for a short stay (up to 90 days within 180 days). No advance action is required.
Travellers should allow additional time at passport control, especially during busy travel seasons. At passport control, travellers provide a facial photo and/or fingerprints. Passports are no longer stamped. Self-service kiosks may be available at some airports and border entries.
