If you're travelling from India to Spain, the first step is understanding the visa requirements. Securing the right visa makes your entry into Spain as smooth as possible. Let's explore all the necessary travel documents, visa types, and health requirements for Indian citizens visiting Spain.
Spain visa requirements for Indian citizens
Travellers need a Schengen visa to visit Spain for Business or Tourism.
Travellers must obtain a paper or embassy visa from an embassy, consulate or visa center before travelling.
This visa requirement doesn’t apply to the following travellers:
- Travellers with valid residence permits or long-term visas issued by a Schengen member state.
Foreign nationals may be authorized to enter the national territory as long as they:
- Meet the necessary and valid documentation requirements
- Provide sufficient financial proof
- Present a visa if they are subject to it
- Provide documents that justify the purpose and conditions of entry if required
- Are not subject to entry prohibitions
- Do not pose a danger to public order, internal or external state security, or to public health.
Foreign nationals who do not meet the requirements established in the previous section may be authorized to enter Spain when there are exceptional reasons of a humanitarian nature, public interest, or compliance with commitments acquired by Spain.
Foreign nationals will certify to officials responsible for control that they meet the requirements established upon arrival.
Foreign nationals who enter Spanish territory from a state with which Spain has signed an agreement to eliminate border controls have the obligation to declare their entry to the Spanish police authorities.
Travellers need a valid passport to enter Spain. The traveller's passport must have been issued less than 10 years before the traveller's arrival date and remain valid for at least 3 months after the traveller's departure from Spain.
Travellers must be able to present proof of having sufficient financial means for their duration of stay in Spain.
The minimum accepted amount travellers must possess is EUR 118.40 per person per day and a total minimum of EUR 1,065.60 or its legal equivalent in foreign currency.
Travellers may prove financial means by presenting cash, certified checks, traveller's checks, payment letters, or credit cards accompanied by a bank account statement or an up-to-date bank book. Letters from banks or internet bank statements will not be accepted.

This requirement doesn’t apply to the following travellers:
- Travellers with valid authorization for residence or study in Spain, in any of the Member States of the European Union, Andorra, a diplomatic accreditation card, or a cross-border worker card.
The EU Entry/Exit System (EES) is a new digital border process for non-EU nationals travelling for a short stay (up to 90 days within 180 days). No advance action is required.
Travellers should allow additional time at passport control, especially during busy travel seasons. At passport control, travellers provide a facial photo and/or fingerprints. Passports are no longer stamped. Self-service kiosks may be available at some airports and border entries.
This requirement doesn’t apply to the following travellers:

Travellers must have travel health insurance when visiting Spain.
Insurance should cover at least EUR 30,000.00, be valid in all Schengen countries, and cover the entire duration of stay.

Travellers visiting Spain for professional purposes must provide a letter from a company or authority detailing the need to participate in meetings of a commercial, industrial, or activity-related nature. Travellers need to present documents that show there are commercial relationships or relationships linked to the activity, or access cards to fairs and conferences.
Travellers visiting Spain for study or training purposes must provide an enrollment document or documentation proving admission to an educational center.
Travellers visiting Spain for all other purposes must provide invitations, reservations, or certificates of participation in travel-related events, entry cards, or receipts.
